Musical Drama: “Pulang”
Friday, April 28th, 2006Today i went to Petra, submit for my thesis plan and then i watched musical drama "Pulang". It’s a cooperation work between Pusat Kerohanian Petra and Hosanna Ministry.
I’d interested in this drama because the big name of Aminoto Kosin, you know, he’s a famous composer, arranger and orchestra conductor and he acted as an arranger in most of this drama sound tracks.
The drama itself was originally created by Wynyard Browne with the original title: "The Holly & The Ivy". Some years later, 1989 exactly, Teguh Karya (Indonesian film director) adopted this drama, then it’s adopted again by Varian Adiguna (now) with a musical drama format and it’s already showed in some countries in Indonesia (included Surabaya, now).
I came by myself because my brother doesn’t want to accompany me, but lucky me, i meet my "kouhai"s (junior classmates): Andri, Andre and his sister, there. Thanks to them, i didn’t have to watch the drama alone.
I bought the 1st class ticket (fyi, there’re 4 class avaliable: VVIP, VIP, 1st class & 2nd class) for Rp40.000,-. Well, that’s bit a price for me, but i think this is the most reasonable class for me (not as expensive as VIP nor VVIP but at least i don’t get a "goat class" =p), and you know what? i were right.
I got the 4th row seat from the stage and it’s close enough to see the main character. Talking about the main character, i think she was quite beautiful, but i liked one who role the main character’s sister better, oops..out of topic =p.
The drama started with a discotique set and then some dancer appeared and start to dance, and i have to say that it was a nice choreography (wow!), then the main character showed up and had some argument with a drunk guy, then…..* beeeep *, sorry but i can’t tell you the story in detail, watch it yourself or buy the DVD for Rp39.000,-. I bought the DVD along with "Inspektur Jenderal" (General Ispector) CDs for Rp60.000,- both. (Hey! Why i commerced that? =o). What can i tell is that if you watch the drama, you’ll remember "The lost son" parable (Luke 15:11-32).
In general, i have to say this, event tough it was difficult, but the drama’s story was lack of climax. In two hours length, most of it was dancing and singing (of course, this was musical drama..everyone =d), no, i mean the dance, the song, the decoration and the roleplay was very good, i must admit it, but with that short of story (there’s only 3 scenes in total), i don’t get the climax, because without enough explanation , the main character was already went home (as the title said: "Pulang") and not long after that, the story was over with happy ending. Well, it’s only my opinion anyway.
In technical there’s some sound problem (it’s often happen in Surabaya’s sound system rentals, don’t know why?!) so i have to cut the score by 1.5 because sound was one of the important part of musical drama, therefore i give this drama 8.5 of 10. (Hey! Since when i became a critic?!)
Uh oh, it’s already 12.40, i have to go to sleep, because tomorrow i have to work. Thank you anyone. GBU.
